Visa FAQs for Australia and New Zealand

Here are some of the visa FAQs we are asked most frequently – and if your question isn’t here, please contact us for personalised expert advice.

Working with VisaAide FAQs

I need someone to manage my visa application. How do I start working with VisaAide?

The process would start with you completing an initial assessment that gathers vital information we need in order to provide you with objective and accurate advice.

From this, we’ll assess your circumstances and advise you on your options and which option we feel is best for you to take.

If you then choose to work with us, we’ll arrange for an agreement to be signed that will outline the services we’ll provide and the costs involved.

The adviser handling your case would then arrange a time to speak with you to discuss the circumstances of your application, and then create a tailored list of information that you’ll need to provide for the application.

During the process, your adviser will be available over the phone or email for any questions you may have.

I need someone to review my visa application to make sure everything is alright. Can VisaAide do this?

Sure. We can complete a comprehensive review of your visa application and provide you with a detailed report outlining any potential issues.

I just need some visa application advice. How does it work?

You can email or call us if you need some help, which is ideal if you just have a quick question. Here’s where you can find our contact details.

Alternatively, if you require more time or have a complex issue to discuss, we have paid Zoom, phone, or office-based consultations available that you can book online.

How much will it cost for VisaAide to manage my application?

Each application has different requirements and therefore the costs are assessed on the individual circumstances of each case. Prior to you agreeing to work with us, we’ll provide you with a quote outlining the total costs involved in your application. Payments are normally broken down into instalments.

VisaAide accepts Visa, MasterCard, Direct Debit, and PayPal.

Can VisaAide help with visas other than for New Zealand and Australia?

Unfortunately we are unable to assist with immigration matters that do not relate to New Zealand or Australia.

Can VisaAide assist with me finding employment in New Zealand?

Unfortunately we’re unable to assist you with your employment search at this stage, but one of our partner companies specialises in jobs for skilled workers from overseas. RecruitNZ would like to hear from you if you have skills in Construction or Civil Engineering.

Employer FAQs on New Zealand visa applications

Here are visa FAQs we often receive from employers – and if you have a question that isn’t covered, please contact us.

What do I need to do if I want to employ non-New Zealand citizens or residents in my business?

In most cases, the potential employee would need an Accredited Employer Work Visa. This application would require you, as the employer, to become an accredited employer and then have a positive Job Check for the position. VisaAide, and our partner companies at People Inc, can manage the whole process for you.

There are other visa options to consider too – so you’re best to check with us first.

How do I know if someone can work in New Zealand?

You may be able to use New Zealand Immigration’s online VisaView service to confirm someone’s work rights in NZ.

I have employees that don’t have New Zealand passports and I need them to work short-term in Australia

Subclass 400 is normally the most appropriate visa to apply for if your employee’s intention is to complete short-term, highly skilled work in Australia.

However, it doesn’t suit every situation and we highly recommend that you discuss the details of the visit with us before applying for this or any type of visa.

Please note: An ETA or eVisitor allows for business activities – for example, a conference, to receive training, or a business meeting – but does not allow work.

New Zealand visa applications FAQs

Here are visa FAQs we often receive about New Zealand visas – and if you have a question that isn’t covered, please contact us.

Is my qualification relevant to my offer of employment in New Zealand?

This question can sometimes be difficult to answer. It is best to contact us before applying for your visa if you are unsure.

I have found employment in New Zealand – can I apply for a Work Visa?

Your employer will require a positive Job Check before you are able to submit an application for an Accredited Employer Work Visa. It’s best to have your circumstances fully assessed by a professional before making an application – contact us for help.

PPI Letters: I’ve received a letter from Immigration NZ saying they want more information and that they may decline my application. Can VisaAide help me with my response?

Yes, we’re able to help. Contact us right away, as normally you have a very limited time to respond.

Australian visa applications FAQs

Here are visa FAQs we often receive about Australian visas – and if you have a question that isn’t covered, please contact us.

Can I apply for an Australian student visa while in New Zealand?

Yes, you can apply for a student visa while in New Zealand but it is recommended that you hold a valid New Zealand visa for the time your application is being processed.

Can I apply for an Australian visitor visa while in NZ?

Yes, you are able to apply for an Australian visitor visa from within New Zealand. However, your NZ visa status may affect the way your application is assessed. For example, if you hold a New Zealand visitor visa your chances of obtaining an Australian visitor visa will be generally lower than that of a permanent New Zealand resident.

I am a New Zealand citizen. Can I apply to migrate to Australia?

The Special Category Visa (or Subclass 444 visa) allows NZ citizens to live and work in Australia as long as they are not considered to be of health or character concern. However, this visa will not normally lead to residency. New Zealand citizens would need to apply for residency just like any other nationality.

If you are considering making the move to Australia, it’s best to check your residency options with us first.
